Every year, Africa Day is celebrated on 25 May to commemorate African unity and the shared aspirations of the continent. In Sweden, however, the 2026 edition took on a new dimension.
Under the leadership of the 22 African Heads of Mission accredited to the Kingdom of Sweden, Africa Day evolved from a traditional celebration into a two-day platform dedicated to business, investment, innovation and culture. Held on 28 and 29 May 2026 under the theme “African-Nordic Synergies for Sustainable Growth,” the event brought together decision-makers, investors, entrepreneurs, development institutions and members of the diplomatic community from across Africa and the Nordic region.
For the Republic of the Congo, the event provided an important opportunity to promote the country's economic potential, strengthen its visibility in the Nordic region and showcase its cultural heritage to a diverse audience.
The first day was dedicated to the inaugural Africa-Nordic Business Seminar, a landmark initiative designed to encourage dialogue and cooperation between African and Nordic stakeholders. Through panel discussions, networking sessions and country presentations, participants explored opportunities in investment, innovation, sustainable development, education and entrepreneurship.
Throughout the seminar, one message emerged clearly: Africa is no longer a continent to watch from afar, but a continent with which to build partnerships.
The Republic of the Congo participated through an investment promotion stand highlighting opportunities in tourism, agriculture, agro-industry and sustainable development. Particular attention was given to sectors where the country is seeking to attract partnerships and investment as part of its broader efforts to diversify the economy and create sustainable growth opportunities.
With its strategic location in Central Africa, abundant natural resources, modern infrastructure projects and commitment to economic diversification, the Republic of the Congo continues to position itself as a destination for investment and regional cooperation. The country is actively promoting opportunities in agriculture, tourism, energy, logistics, digital innovation and value-added industries, creating new avenues for mutually beneficial partnerships.
The Congolese delegation also included representatives of Lawanda Tours & Adventures, who engaged with investors, institutions and business leaders throughout the event, helping to showcase the country's tourism potential and entrepreneurial dynamism.
On the second day, attention turned to the cultural richness of the African continent. Hosted at the Residence of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Djursholm, the cultural celebration brought together members of the diplomatic corps, Swedish guests, entrepreneurs and members of the African diaspora.
The Republic of the Congo proudly showcased its cultural heritage through music, dance and cuisine, offering visitors a glimpse into the country's traditions, creativity and cultural diversity. The Congolese stand attracted significant interest and provided an opportunity to promote not only the country's culture but also its people, values and identity.
Beyond the exhibitions and performances, the event served as a reminder that culture remains a powerful instrument of diplomacy. By sharing its traditions and engaging with visitors, the Republic of the Congo strengthened cultural ties with Sweden while contributing to a broader celebration of African diversity.
Through its participation in Africa Day 2026, the Republic of the Congo demonstrated its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nordic partners, promoting investment opportunities and building bridges through culture.
More than a celebration, these two days provided a platform to present a modern, dynamic and forward-looking Congo, a country open to partnerships, investment and international cooperation.
